It is wise however to control your drinking and smoking because too much of alcohol in your body can easily trigger an increase in blood pressure. Without spoiling the fun, follow this simple tricks to lessen your alcohol intake. When picking a drink, opt for those with lower strength or low alcohol content. With lots of beers and drinks in the market, this is never a problem so select the lesser evil. If you can’t find one, try adding mixers or water and lots of ice. Guide to LASIK Eye Surgery Procedure

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most common form of laser eye surgery done today. It is an outpatient surgical procedure that can be used to treat nearly all forms of vision problems, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The only vision problem LASIK is not able to treat is presbyopia, which is usually caused by old age.

The procedure works by using a small laser to reshape the cornea on the front of the eye. When the process is finished, the laser will have altered the way your eye focuses light rays, which results in significantly improved vision.

It’s important to remember that laser eye surgery is just that, surgery. Patients will not be sedated while their eyes are being worked on, but will be given eye numbing drops so they won’t feel anything. After that, patients will lean back in a reclining position. An eyelid holder will be placed on your eyes to prevent you from blinking while the laser is doing its work. Next, a ring, similar to a suction cup, is placed over your eye. You will feel some pressure and your vision will go black or faded, this is normal.

At this point is when the laser starts to do its work. Your eye surgeon will cut off a flap of your eye and the laser will begin to sculpt the corneal tissue. When the laser has finished doing this, the surgeon places the flap back over your pupil and the surgery is done. The laser process only lasts about a minute, though the examination beforehand can last about 30 minutes. Patients should take off from work the day of the surgery and also arrange for a ride home. Napping is often recommended as it gives your eyes a chance to rest.

In most cases, patients are able to drive and function normally the following day. The only exception is that you may need to wear a transparent shield over your eye to keep you from accidentally rubbing them, especially in your sleep. If you accidentally apply too much pressure to your eye before it has time to heal properly, the flap that the surgeon cut early risks coming undone. If this happens, you will need an additional surgery to fix it.

While LASIK surgery is commonly done and usually has outstanding results of 20/20 vision, it is not for everyone. Those who have dry eyes may not have as much improvement as those without, for example. If you have large pupils, keratoconus, thin corneas, or very poor vision, you should meet with an eye specialist beforehand and discuss your risks. If you are pregnant or nursing, you should also avoid the surgery for the time being.

Another important factor is your age. Laser eye surgery is not recommended for those under 21 years of age, because your eyes are still growing and adjusting. Even after 21, some patients may not be good candidates for the surgery depending on their eye growth. You should always have a pre-LASIK exam to discuss these factors, as there are risks with the surgery and any of these conditions increase the chance of something going wrong.

Importance of Selenium For Good Thyroid Health

Selenium is an essential trace mineral that is found naturally in the soil. Crops harvested where there is high levels of the mineral will absorb it and consequently the mineral will become part of our diet. The biggest source of selenium is the brazil nut but it is also found in meats, fish and sea vegetables.

Scientific studies suggest the having selenium in our diet and supplements may reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer. Some of the cancers said to be affected by the consumption of selenium are thyroid, lung, colorectal and prostate.

Not only do the studies suggest reduction in the risk of thyroid cancer but it appears when the body is lacking the mineral other conditions may occur with the thyroid gland. Hypothyroidism may become a problem. The condition occurs when the thyroid gland is under active and does not produce adequate thyroid hormones. The vital thyroid hormone, triiodothyronine (T3) converted from thyroxine (T4), working together with other hormones regulate the health of our cells, growth and metabolism. When food containing selenium is consumed, the mineral combines with proteins forming selenoproteins. These selenoproteins assist to regulate the thyroid gland’s function, protecting the cells from the hydrogen peroxide that is produced naturally by the thyroid gland in the production of the thyroid hormones. But if the gland produces to much hydrogen peroxide and there is a deficiency of selenium the selenoproteins cannot protect the thyroid cells from damage.

Along with selenium an other essential mineral, iodine, is needed for the thyroid gland’s good health. Goiter, an enlargement of the thyroid gland can result if there is not a balance of these two minerals. A lack of iodine will cause the gland to become enlarged in the glands attempt to increase hormone production. Studies on experimental animals have shown that a deficiency of selenium causes the weight of the thyroid to increase also. In many African countries, where there is a deficiency of both iodine and selenium, the cases of people suffering with goiter as well as hypothyroidism.

Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune thyroid disorder, is another condition that may result from a deficiency of this essential trace mineral. These patients though are often told not to take iodine supplementation because it is felt that iodine may cause and increase in oxidative damage to the gland. As an antioxidant, selenium will protect the gland from this damage.

Green Mobility

Traffic is an important factor in respect to climate change and produces around 20% of CO2 emissions according to data of the Umweltbundesamt in Germany, thus producing 170 Mio. tons of CO2 yearly, mainly because of cars.

Some of the emissions are toxic and produce cancer so it is time for all of us to wake up and start doing something and take drastic measures.

It is important that cars take part in the global emission reduction process. This can be done only if less fuel is used by everybody.

Buy more efficient cars, use public transport whenever possible, ride your bicycle whenever possible or even walk.

Or get an electric bicycle and use it to make short trips to the supermarket or to the doctor. Some even can use a folding electric bicycle to go to work and recharge the battery in the office if they have to.

An additional benefit is that you save money doing this and it helps you to stay fit. The Germans intend to push the development of electric vehicles in the future to reduce emissions in and around big cities like Frankfurt/Main.

Many Germans are still reluctant to “go electric” and prefer petrol driven cars, but there are many projects running to build the infrastructure to charge the batteries for electric cars.

At the moment (2011) the prices for electric cars are still too high and the battery range may be too low for some people. For that reason there are projects underway to enable people to test electric bicycles and electric cars to grow confidence for this new technology. Many people living in and around Frankfurt/Main could use electric vehicles if they have a chance to charge their batteries at home or at work.

However, we are just at the beginning as many people have not realized the full potential of electric vehicles and are not ready yet. Nonetheless China is already leading in this field and Europe has to catch up.

In China you can find electric taxis running a distance of over 280 km before the battery has to be recharged.

So let’s hope that the Europeans get their act together and push the development of electric mobility ahead as they are running behind already in their green mobility efforts compared to China.

So let’s get off oil and onto electricity even if electric vehicles may not be the total solution at the moment but they are surely a step into the right direction and they might trigger off the development of new alternative technologies.

Augmented Vs Diminished Chords

There are more kinds of chords than minor and major. Today, I want to discuss augmented versus diminished. I have already discussed minor and major chords on my blog. Augmented and versus diminished can follow the same strategy.

To find a major, you know that you begin with your root, move 4 half steps up to your mediant and then move 3 steps up to your dominant.

The interval for augmented chords would be 4 – 4 which means 4 1/2 steps from the root, and then 4 from the mediant. Another way to look at it is to find your augmented chord is to begin with your major chord and then move your dominant chord a half step up.

Let’s take a look at the D augmented chord. You can either count 4 1/2 steps from D and then get F(sharp) and then count 4 up from F sharp and land on A sharp. However, if you just look at the major chord which is D, F sharp, A, you can see that moving A one half step up will give you your augmented chord.

Now let’s take a look at diminished chords.

Diminished are similar to augmented except that you look at the minor instead of a major chord. A minor chord is 3 half steps up from the root, and then 4 up from the mediant. When you want your diminished triad, the chord interval would be 3 – 3. Now if you want to start with your minor chord, you would move your dominant a half step down instead of up.

Let’s do an example using the A diminished. You can follow the same two methods that are stated above which either is counting steps or starting with your minor chord and making it a diminished.

With an A minor chord, you have the notes A, C, and E. The chord interval here is 3 – 4. Now you can take your minor chord and move your dominant note down a half step to get A, C, and E(flat). Or you can use the alternative method and start with A, move up 3 half steps to C, and then move 3 to E flat.

Either method to you use to find these chords will work just fine and both are acceptable. Now if you ask which one would be faster? It depends on which one would be easier for you!

When it comes to developing your trading business, don’t be tempted to spread yourself too thinly. In my experience it pays to specialise and find yourself a niche. It’s much better to follow a handful or strategies well, and then keep on doing them and churning out profits, than it is to do many things badly.

If you’re designing a trading system for yourself, just choose one or two markets which you want to specialise in, and get to know them inside out. Before long you’ll know exactly how your chosen markets work, and how to trade them for maximum profits.

Rule 2: Keep it simple

If you study the online betting marketplace, you will see lots of people selling all manner of weird and wonderful trading methods and systems. It’s amazing how some people like to over complicate things.

Some people swear by their systems like “buy the US dollar when line 1 is above line 2 but below line 3, and only when it’s a full moon and the weather forecast is good” – it seems as though the more rules they have to follow, the more they feel a system or strategy is worth.

My rule is – keep it simple. Have simple, easy to follow trading methods that you can apply quickly and easily whenever you like, and then spend the rest of your time worrying about something more interesting. Life does not need to be complicated, and if you try to over complicate things, you are more likely to make mistakes.

Rule 3: Pass the test of time

Just because something happens once, doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen again. Personally I want to see evidence that something has happened again and again in order for me to be confident that it will keep happening in the future.

In other words, I want to make sure the trading methods I use aren’t just a flash in the pan because that is no good to me – I need to know they’re going to stand the test of time.

So if your trading business is going to succeed, you need to make sure that the methods you’re using will keep on making you a regular profit over the long term.

If you’ve come up with your own idea for a trading method, you must back test it thoroughly to make sure it would have made regular profits in the past, and then paper test it for a suitable period of time to make sure it will continue to profit in the future.

Maybe that sounds like too much hard work, but that’s what separates successful traders from all those who try and fail. If you don’t put in the work at first, you don’t have a system to follow, and that means you will inevitably fail.

Follow these three rules and you have a good chance of developing a profitable system that you can rely upon to make you money for many years to come.

Toward the end, we require a different kind of care. Hospice homes specialize in this care and do their best to make passing away as comfortable as possible. Hospice workers are caregivers that have a rare kind of empathy. This is a very hard profession, but it is a blessing too. If you have a loved one that is in need of hospice care, you are probably going to be scared, both for what is happening to your loved one, and what you will be left with when the inevitable happens. There are two main options here. You may put your loved one in a home that specializes in hospice. These homes are generally well equipped and provide as much comfort as possible. Still, this is a hard thing to do. If you have a dying loved one, you probably want to spend as much time as possible with them. If you select a home, you will probably only be able to visit during normal hours. This is for the benefit of the hospice patients. However, this might make you lean toward another choice: hiring a hospice worker to work from your loved one’s own home.

If you are getting your loved one in home hospice care, you will have more freedom to visit at whatever time your loved one might want you to. Additionally, this option avoids some of the stress that might be created by going to a strange place. Your loved one will be able to stay in the comforts of their own home and do the things they want to do. A hospice caregiver from a bigger service can come to your home and comfort your loved one while you are away.

On a personal note, you might want to consider in home hospice care if there are children that live in your home. Bringing a child to watch a parent or grandparent within a hospice home might be just a bit too much for them. The vast majority of small children do not understand and are terrified of death. Having a loved one die is hard enough; you don’t want to expose them to other people who are passing away as well. In your own home, you can explain what is happening on a more personal level. On the other hand, having a parent or grandparent pass away somewhere else might be easier on them as they will not associate their home with death as much. This is a very fine balancing act; if you have children, you will want to choose the option that best suits their personal needs and attitudes.
